Lower Back Pain and Prenatal Chiropractic Care in Te Puke

At our Te Puke clinic we have recently seen an uptake in pregnant women presenting with lower back pain and discomfort. The prenatal period is an important time for a woman to monitor her physical condition and well-being and be in touch with the changes that are happening on the inside. Whether you regularly visited a chiropractor before your pregnancy or have concerns about lower back pain that has recently developed, you should consult with a chiropractor (like us) familiar with how the bodily transitions you are experiencing may aggravate your body's musculoskeletal symptoms.

Important Considerations in Te Puke

During your pregnancy, your body will experience alterations in its endocrines and physiology. Some of these transitions may lead to lower back pain caused by a misaligned spine or joints. These structural shifts cause the spine or pelvis to become out of alignment and interfere with the nerves at those levels. These changes include:

  • An increased curve on your back
  • An abdomen that protrudes
  • Changes in your posture or pelvis
  • Pain in the lower back or groin

Visiting us at Te Puke Chiropractic is an extremely safe and effective option for women who experience new or recurring pain in the spine, joints, or lower back. If you feel increased pain or experience difficulty in areas such as the lower back, a prenatal chiropractic visit may alleviate discomfort and reduce pain. Treatments and adjustments of misaligned joints will reduce stress on nerves at a time when your body, skeleton, and posture have changed to accommodate the child within you.

We also are proficient in the Webster technique, which is a great approach to minimizing stress and pressure on the sacrum and pelvis, but also removes in-utero constraint allowing bubs to always get into the best position possible. Every year we have women present with babies in breech position which are successfully “turned” or “spun” by using the Webster technique to removing constraint.

By some estimates, approximately half of the women who carry a child to term experience back pain during the prenatal period. More than half may encounter back pain during labor. Scheduling regular visits with us at Te Puke Chiropractic allows our professional team to treat the common symptoms that many women experience during pregnancy, as well as assess and adjust any complications or new areas of pain that may arise.

For the majority of pregnant women checked in our clinic, there has either been a significant overall improvement in their health or it has completely solved the problem they presented with. If you or someone you know is suffering call us at (07) 573 9988 for a complimentary consultation and to set up a time to have your spine and nervous system checked. Chiropractic care when you’re pregnant really is a beautiful thing!
